» The Black & White Lab expands with the digital explosion

After nearly 25 years in the business, Lou George, CEO and president of The Black & White Lab Inc., was hit hard by the industry switch from traditional film processing to digital photography. To handle the lost business, she refocused the company on products and services to a wider range of consumers. In 1999, she launched BWC Creative to handle creative design and Museumscapes LLC to focus on the growing demand for museum exhibition work.

Lou George fell in love with the magic of photography the first time she watched a photographic image develop. She knew then that it was what she wanted to do for the rest of her life. In 1975, she and her then-husband, Walt Huckabee, founded The Black & White Lab Inc. as a black and white film processing laboratory. Despite getting its start in the middle of a recession, The Black & White Lab, doing business as BWC Photo Imaging, has grown to include two other offshoots — BWC Creative and Museumscapes LLC — and grew annual revenue last year to $8.7 million.
